The Tipperary Point to Red Hill
Bridge lies collapsed in the River Dee. Built originally
in the 1890s, it may have been Queensland's oldest pedestrian
suspension bridge. In a world that appreciated and valued
cultural heritage, its significance would have been
applauded and its timbers and steelwork maintained.
Today, in regional places as much as in Brisbane, the
future of heritage places is assessed in monetary terms
and the community of Queensland is the more impoverished
for it.
The National Trust of Queensland entered the last two
Mt Morgan Suspension Bridges in its Register in 1974.
Now there are none.
Former Herries Hospital Cairns
- Still under threat Despite being entered in the Queensland Heritage
Register, the former hospital is still under immense
threat.
Demolition of Herries Hospital Cairns It is now almost a year since the external cladding
was removed from this place entered in the Queensland
Heritage Register, and still nothing has happened.

Queensland Government has launched the"Living Buildings"
Heritage Grant Program and the Minister for Environment,
the Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr MP has personally recognised
the instrumental role the National Trust played in making
this happen.
