COUNCIL NOMINATIONS

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

PREAMBLE
The National Trust of Queensland (NTQ) is formed by the National Trust of Queensland Act 1963. The Act provides for the formation of a council which "shall administer, manage and conduct the affairs of the National Trust and the business and management thereof, and may do and perform all acts and things that are necessary or convenient for giving effect to the objects…" [s 6(2)]

The NTQ Council consists of ten members elected from the membership. The Act also provides for 10 Councillors to be appointed by a number of specified organisations. Only elected Councillors can be office bearers.

Council meets 11 times per year mostly in Brisbane. Councillors are eligible for modest sitting fees and travel expenses are met.

WORK OF THE COUNCIL
Council formulates NTQ policy and deals with budget and finances, governance, heritage issues and planning, property, fundraising and membership.

Council benefits from having a range of skills amongst its members - community and volunteer liaison, financial management, business planning, management, heritage expertise, property management and marketing.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A TRUST COUNCILLOR?

The National Trust of Queensland (NTQ) is governed by a Council of elected and appointed Councillors, in accordance with the National Trust of Queensland Act 1963.

There are 10 positions for elected Councillors. Elected Councillors serve a two-year term, with 5 elected Councillors retiring each year. Elected Councillors may nominate for re-appointment.

If more than 5 nominations are received for an annual election, a ballot of members is conducted.

The NTQ Council is responsible for the strategic directions of NTQ as well as overseeing the administration and financial management. The NTQ Council has delegated the management of the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to the CWS Board.

NTQ Council meets monthly in Brisbane, usually on the evening of the last Monday of the month. However, the time Council meetings are held is currently under review.

NTQ Council has also been trialing video-conferencing for regional Councillors to reduce the time commitment needed to travel to Brisbane every month.

Councillors are paid a small fee to cover some of their costs. Travel costs are met by NTQ.

Ideally, NTQ Council would include a diversity of skills including heritage, finance, administration, marketing, property management, fundraising, business and advocacy. To nominate you must be a financial member of the National Trust of Queensland and be aged 18 years or over. Click here to join the National Trust.

Nominations for NTQ Council must be made on the approved form and lodged in accordance with the NTQ Rules.

Interested? Contact the NTQ office on 3223 6666 or info@nationaltrustqld.org to receive a nomination form or more information.
