PUBLIC MEETING - ROCKHAMPTON BRANCH FORMATION

When: Wednesday 29 February 2012 at 7pm
Where: St Paul's Church,89 William Street, Rockhampton

Join in and help our heritage….

Everyone interested in Rockhampton's heritage is invited to a public meeting on 29 February to recognise the importance of retaining its special character.

The meeting, organised by the National Trust of Queensland, will discuss Central Queensland's important built heritage, including its wealth of character residences, and what can be done to keep it for future generations.

Stephen Sheaffe, President of the National Trust of Queensland said "The Rockhampton area has so many wonderful character streetscapes, both commercial and residential, so it is important to make sure they are developed in a way that their qualities are not lost. Quay Street is one of the great heritage precincts left in Queensland."

The Trust would like to once again form a Branch in Rockhampton to:

  • Advocate for the conservation of the heritage of the Rockhampton region and
  • Advocate for assistance for owners of heritage places.

Interested community members are invited to a public meeting to discuss the formation of a new Rockhampton Branch and its operation.

The public meeting is free of charge and all are welcome.

TOOWOOMBA NATIONAL TRUST WORKING GROUP FORMATION

The National Trust of Queensland is a membership-based community heritage organisation, with links to National Trusts across Australia and the World.

The Trust held a public meeting in Toowoomba. Twenty-five people attended the evening, which was extremely encouraging.

Guest speakers discussed the current activities of the National Trust and heritage issues in Toowoomba.

The meeting received substantial coverage in the local media, including the Toowoomba Chronicle and local ABC radio.

The attendees agreed to meet again to form a branch of the National Trust in Toowoomba. The main purpose of the Branch is to promote the conservation of the heritage in the Toowoomba area, as well as:

  • Advocate for the conservation of the heritage of the Toowoomba district
  • Advocate for assistance for owners of heritage places, particularly those affected by this year's devastating floods and
  • Assist with the management of the Royal Bulls Head Inn in Drayton.

IPSWICH WORKING GROUP OF THE NATIONAL TRUST

The Ipswich and West Moreton Group has been meeting informally every six weeks or so for more than two years. We get together in private homes, rotating through the group. We generally invite the local councillor for the relevant division to attend, as a way to inform them of the aims of the Trust as well as find out their views on heritage issues. So far several councillors have responded to our invitations. Some of our members are involved in selecting recipients of awards in the Best Maintained Heritage Property category of the annual Ipswich Awards, and have been doing this for some years.

Conctact: 07 3201 4937.

If you are unable to attend meetings but would like to keep abreast of the group's activities by e-mail, please register your interest . Email: jcpage@bigpond.com
